Historic Square in Ozark Missouri
The city of Ozark was first settled in 1833 along the banks of the Finley River. Among the first businesses was a general store, doctors office, wagon and freight yard, and a blacksmith shop.
In 1882, the railroad arrived. Along with it, came new businesses and Ozark continued to grow. After the Great Depression, the population began to dwindle.
Christian County was established in 1859 and was named after Christian County, Kentucky. The Christian County Courthouse was built in 1860 on the north side of the square in Ozark.
This is the Ozark square today. This is the Ozark square today. Throught the Ozark Main Street Program and with the help of local and state grants, the square has been restored to promote the historic era. Three notorious "Baldknobbers" were hanged on the Southwest corner of the Square. Ozark is currently trying to erect a new monument of this event.
